High-Profile Organized Criminal, Two Associates Repatriated to Sri Lanka Following International Operation

Colombo, Sri Lanka – 04 September 2026 – Sri Lankan law enforcement authorities have successfully brought back to the country a notorious organized criminal, who was the subject of an INTERPOL Red Notice, along with two other suspects. The principal suspect, wanted for a string of serious offences including abduction and murder, was apprehended in Malaysia through a collaborative effort involving the Sri Lankan Central Anti-Corruption Unit, Malaysian Police, and INTERPOL.

Successful International Operation Leads to Key Arrest

The intricate operation saw a dedicated team of officers from Sri Lanka’s Central Anti-Corruption Unit working closely with their counterparts in the Malaysian Police and INTERPOL. This coordinated effort culminated in the arrest of the high-profile criminal in Malaysia. The primary suspect was subsequently flown back to Sri Lanka on the evening of 10 August 2026, marking a significant victory in the nation’s fight against organized crime.

The principal suspect has been identified as a 41-year-old male, a resident of Ratmalana, who also maintained temporary residences in the Peradeniya and Tissamaharama areas, likely to evade detection.

Extensive Criminal Record Unveiled

The individual brought back to Sri Lanka faces a formidable list of charges, highlighting his long involvement in serious criminal activities. His alleged offences span over a decade:

  • 2014: Accused of abducting and assaulting a person at gunpoint within the Peradeniya Police Division, an incident that resulted in serious injuries to the victim.
  • 2016: Implicated in two separate cases before the Kandy Magistrate’s Court, connected to the shooting and killing of an individual within the same Peradeniya Police Division. Open warrants had been issued against him due to his repeated failure to appear in court for these grave charges.
  • 2003: Previously arrested in connection with a money-laundering case investigated by the Mount Lavinia Police Division, with legal proceedings subsequently instituted before the Colombo High Court.
  • 2007: Arrested by the Mount Lavinia Police Station for the possession of a hand grenade, further underscoring his dangerous profile.

Two Associates Also Apprehended

In addition to the primary suspect, two other individuals who were found accompanying him at the time of his arrest in Malaysia have also been taken into custody. These suspects have been identified as a 35-year-old resident of Ratmalana and a 31-year-old resident of Mount Lavinia. Arrangements have been made to repatriate both individuals to Sri Lanka to face further investigations into their potential involvement in the principal suspect’s activities or other related crimes.

Investigations Under Direct Supervision

Further investigations into all three suspects are currently underway. These critical inquiries are being conducted under the direct instructions and close supervision of the Inspector General of Police, signaling the high priority placed on these cases by the nation’s top law enforcement body. The successful repatriation underscores Sri Lanka’s commitment to leveraging international cooperation to bring fugitives to justice, regardless of where they seek refuge.
