Colombo, 17 August 2026 – The Parliament of Sri Lanka today hosted a crucial educational programme specifically designed for students of the prestigious Sri Lanka Law College. The initiative aimed to provide aspiring legal professionals with an immersive and comprehensive understanding of the nation’s legislative process, parliamentary procedures, and traditions.

The programme, held within the parliamentary premises, offered a detailed exploration of how laws are made and enacted in Sri Lanka. Participants engaged in thorough discussions covering various stages of the legislative process, the intricate parliamentary procedures, established traditions, and other vital aspects related to the daily business and functions of Parliament.
A significant highlight of the day was an interactive question-and-answer session, which allowed the students to directly engage with parliamentary officials, seeking clarifications and deeper insights into the complex workings of the legislative body. Following these informative sessions, the students were guided on an exclusive tour of the Parliament premises, including a visit to the esteemed Chamber, offering them a firsthand perspective of the legislative environment.

This valuable educational outreach was organised by the Public Outreach Section of the Department of Communications of Parliament. The programme was initiated following a specific request from the Human Rights Movement of the Sri Lanka Law College, underscoring a proactive approach to civic education within the legal fraternity.
Several key parliamentary officials participated in and guided the programme, ensuring its depth and relevance. These included Assistant Secretary General of Parliament Mr. Hansa Abeyratne, Director (Legislative Services) Mr. M. Jayalath Perera, Assistant Director (Administration) Mr. Kanchana Herath, and Assistant Director (Administration) Mr. Shantha Fernando.
