Colombo, Sri Lanka – 01 September 2026 – The Parliament of Sri Lanka has announced that the third instalment of its impactful “Voice to Policy” dialogue series will take place on September 5, 2026, targeting youth from the Kandy District. This crucial initiative aims to significantly bolster youth engagement in the legislative process and promote the principles of an Open Parliament.
The programme, organised by the Parliamentary Caucus for Open Parliament Initiative, is scheduled to be held at the prestigious Golden Crown Hotel in Kandy. It represents a vital step in fostering greater transparency and citizen participation in governance, directly involving the younger generation in shaping national policies.
Empowering Youth for Transparent Governance
Central to the “Voice to Policy” series is the objective of empowering young representatives aged 18 to 35. The Kandy workshop will serve as a platform to enhance their understanding of parliamentary affairs, demystify the legislative process, and thoroughly explain the foundational principles of an Open Parliament. By doing so, the initiative seeks to cultivate a more informed and actively engaged youth populace, strengthening the indispensable relationship between Parliament and its citizens.
The event will be led by the esteemed Co-Chairs of the Parliamentary Caucus for Open Parliament Initiative, Hon. Minister Prof. Krishantha Abeyasena and Hon. Member of Parliament Shanakiyan Rasamanickam. Their leadership underscores Parliament’s commitment to this dialogue. Additionally, Members of the Caucus and Members of Parliament representing the Kandy District are expected to attend, ensuring a diverse and impactful exchange of ideas.
Participation Details for Kandy Youth
Young men and women from the Kandy District, between the ages of 18 and 35, who are keen to contribute their perspectives and learn more about national governance, are encouraged to participate.
