The United States Embassy in Sri Lanka has advised American citizens residing on the island to remain vigilant and register with the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive the latest security updates, due to the ongoing developments in the Middle East.

In an announcement posted on its social media platform, the embassy stated, “We encourage all American citizens to sign up for the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) at http://step.state.gov to get the latest security updates from the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate.”

The embassy emphasized, “The US Department of State has no higher priority than the safety & security of Americans worldwide.”

For those wishing to return to the United States, the embassy has noted the availability of commercial travel options that avoid transit through the Middle East region.

“If your travel plans have been affected and you wish to speak with a Consular Officer, walk-in hours are available Monday-Thursday, 1:00–2:00 p.m,” the announcement continued.

For urgent assistance or if visiting during walk-in hours is not possible, the embassy advises contacting the American Citizen Services Unit at +94-11-202-8500 or reaching out via the U.S. Citizens Services Navigator at https://tinyurl.com/ACS-Visa-Navigator.
