Sri Lanka’s Official Reserves Exceed USD 7 Billion, Marking a Milestone Since August 2020

Sri Lanka’s official reserve assets have exceeded the USD 7 billion threshold for the first time since August 2020. According to the latest figures released by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL), the nation’s official reserve assets reached USD 7,284 million by the end of February 2026. This marks a 6.6% increase from the USD 6,832 million reported at the end of January 2026.

The primary component of these official reserves, foreign currency reserves, saw a rise from USD 6,687 million to USD 7,057 million during February 2026. Additionally, the Central Bank’s gold reserves experienced a significant growth of 83.4%, increasing from USD 109 million to USD 200 million within the same period.

These figures include proceeds from the swap arrangement with the People’s Bank of China, as noted by the Central Bank.
