FINANCIAL CHRONICLE – The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation announced an increase in diesel and petrol prices in Sri Lanka, effective from March 9. This decision comes shortly after the government assured the public of sufficient fuel stocks, amidst escalating tensions in the oil-producing region due to US-Israeli attacks on Iran.

The price adjustments are as follows: Petrol 92 Octane has been increased by 24 rupees, bringing the new price to 317 rupees per liter. Petrol 95 Octane has seen a rise of 25 rupees, now costing 365 rupees per liter. Diesel is now priced at 303 rupees per liter following a 22 rupee increase. Euro 4 diesel has been adjusted by 24 rupees, with the new price set at 353 rupees per liter. Kerosene has also been raised by 13 rupees, making the current price 195 rupees per liter.

Prior to these changes, Sri Lankan officials had confirmed adequate petrol and diesel stocks. However, global oil prices experienced a significant surge, exceeding a 20 percent increase to surpass 115 dollars a barrel as of Monday.
