Sri Lanka is intensifying its efforts to bolster global trade partnerships in anticipation of Sri Lanka Expo 2026. This premier international trade exhibition is set to take place from June 18 to 21, 2026, at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH) in Colombo. The event is organized by the Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB) in partnership with the Ministry of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development, along with various public and private stakeholders. The primary aim is to establish Sri Lanka as a competitive hub for trade, investment, and innovation.
In pursuit of these objectives, a high-level delegation led by Hon. Sunil Handunnetti, Minister of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development, held a series of discussions with foreign diplomatic missions in Sri Lanka. Accompanying him were Mrs. Thilaka Jayasundara, Secretary to the Ministry, and Mr. Mangala Wijesinghe, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the EDB. Their goal was to strengthen bilateral trade ties and promote international participation in Sri Lanka Expo 2026.
The delegation engaged with several key figures, including H.E. Andrew Patrick, British High Commissioner to Sri Lanka; H.E. Dewi Gustina Tobing, Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Sri Lanka; and H.E. Miyon Lee, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Sri Lanka. Discussions focused on enhancing trade and investment cooperation and encouraging buyer and investor participation from these nations at the upcoming Expo.
These efforts underscore Sri Lanka’s proactive strategy to reinforce global trade relations. Sri Lanka Expo 2026 is positioned as a vital platform for international buyers to connect with Sri Lankan exporters across various sectors, including apparel, tea, spices, rubber products, ICT services, food and beverages, and industrial manufacturing. Additionally, the Expo aims to attract investors to explore business opportunities and strategic collaborations with Sri Lankan enterprises.
