“Fuel App Provides Real-Time Updates on Stock Availability Amidst Sri Lanka’s Fuel Shortage”

FINANCIAL CHRONICLE – A mobile app called FullTank is assisting users in Sri Lanka in checking fuel availability amidst an ongoing fuel shortage.

The app tracks queue estimates through crowdsourced verification. “The interface is designed to stay fast and readable on low-end devices while keeping community updates easy to submit,” the app’s landing page states.

The app features a live map that employs a traffic light system, where stations are displayed in green (verified and available after community confirmations), amber (reported by users and awaiting verification), and red (empty or no fuel reported) based on availability. “Stations turn green after three separate confirmations.”

Currently, the data is most robust around the Western Province as the community continues to grow, according to the developers. The platform boasts over 2,500 users providing live updates, as indicated by a message circulating on social media.

In response to the fuel shortage, Sri Lanka’s government has reintroduced a QR code system that was implemented during the 2022 foreign exchange crisis, along with an odd-even number petrol distribution system. The government has consistently maintained that fuel stocks are available.
