The Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB) recently organized a significant meeting involving the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) and representatives from various sectors within Sri Lanka’s export industry. The discussion centered around the existing fuel distribution system and its effects on exports.
Taking place at the CPC headquarters, this meeting was prompted by increasing concerns from exporters regarding fuel availability, distribution challenges, and the urgent need for a dependable and prioritized supply system for industries focused on exports. In response to the EDB’s request, the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation agreed to engage in direct conversations.
The gathering included delegates from a wide array of sectors such as apparel, gems and jewelry, electronics, marine industries, pharmaceuticals, ceramics, rubber, and technology, highlighting the extensive influence of fuel supply on the country’s export economy.
Key participants included representatives from various organizations like the Joint Apparel Association Forum, the Sri Lanka Apparel Exporters Association, the Ceylon Gem & Jewelry Traders Association, the Sri Lanka Gem & Jewelry Association, the Chamber of Marine Industries of Sri Lanka, the Sri Lanka Pharmaceutical Manufacturers’ Association, the Sri Lanka Ceramics & Glass Council, the Professional Engineers Association, the Sri Lanka Association for Software and Service Companies (SLASSCOM), the Sri Lanka Association of Printers (SLAP), and the Sri Lanka Electronic Manufacturers and Exporters Association (SLEMEA).
EDB Chairman and CEO Mr. Mangala Wijesinghe, CPC Chairman Mr. D J A S De S Rajakaruna, and CPC Managing Director Dr. Mayura Neththikumarage were present during the discussions, which aimed to create a reliable and prioritized fuel supply system for export-focused industries.
The EDB has reaffirmed its dedication to fostering productive dialogue between essential state entities and the private sector. This aligns with its objective to establish Sri Lanka as a key player in the export market for premium products and services. This meeting represents a crucial advancement in ensuring that the fuel supply framework adequately supports the competitiveness and sustainability of Sri Lanka’s export sectors.
