Sri Lanka’s Cabinet of Ministers has approved a proposal to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between a local government agency and a Japanese state firm to enhance skills training for Sri Lankans, with the aim of improving employability in Japan, according to Cabinet Spokesman Nalinda Jayatissa.

The agreement will be signed between the Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Agency (SLFEA) and Enterprise United Corporative (EUC) of Japan. The primary objective is to increase job opportunities for Sri Lankans in Japan through a secure, systematic, and formal process.

Under the MOU, internationally recognized technological and professional training will be provided, along with education in technical subjects, the Japanese language, and Japanese culture for Sri Lankan youth. This initiative also seeks to address the shortage of skilled laborers in Japan.

The EUC operates under the Ministry of Health, Labor, and Welfare in Japan, while SLFEA is an affiliated institution of the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment.

Cabinet Spokesman Jayatissa stated that a consensus has been reached to conduct the training programs at the Sapugaskanda National Youth Service Training Center, in collaboration with the National Youth Service Council.
