Sri Lanka rupee weaker, bond yields open lower

Sri Lanka’s rupee was trading at 309.55/65 against the US dollar in the spot market on Wednesday, slightly weaker than the 309.50/60 rate recorded the previous day, according to dealers. Meanwhile, government bond yields opened lower.

The bond maturing on 1 July 2028 was quoted at 8.98/9.05 percent. The bond maturing on 15 December 2029 was quoted at 9.46/48 percent. For the bond maturing on 15 March 2031, yields were at 9.85/95 percent, while the bond maturing on 1 October 2032 was quoted at 10.20/25 percent, down from 10.22/25 percent previously.

The bond maturing on 1 November 2033 was quoted at 10.37/43 percent, compared to 10.37/42 percent earlier. The bond maturing on 15 September 2034 was quoted at 10.50/60 percent, and the bond maturing on 15 June 2035 was at 10.62/66 percent.

An auction for 48,000 million rupees in Treasury bills was underway on Wednesday.
