Sri Lanka’s vehicle sales experienced a decline across various categories by 9.7 percent in November 2025, marking the second consecutive month of reduced sales, according to an analysis of vehicle registry data conducted by J B Securities, a Colombo-based equities brokerage.

The total number of vehicles registered dropped by 4,271 units to 43,810 in November, compared to 48,081 in October and 48,897 in September.

Despite the overall decline, registrations of used cars saw an increase, rising to 2,910 in November from 2,817 in October, although still below the September peak of 3,461.

Registrations of brand new motor cars decreased from 836 in October to 781 in November. However, this figure was an improvement from the 489 units registered in September. The Chinese-made BAW E-7, a small electric car, led the sales in this category with 323 units sold.

SUV and crossover sales also saw a decline, falling to 4,645 units in November, down from 5,181 in October and 5,834 in September.

Hybrid vehicle registrations decreased to 2,261 units from October’s 2,519. Meanwhile, electric vehicle registrations fell to 3,158 from 4,039 units in the previous month. The Yadea motorcycle emerged as the top-selling electric vehicle across all categories, with 1,421 units registered in November, a decrease from 1,801 units in October.
