The Sri Lankan Social Security Board, established three decades ago, has reached an unprecedented milestone in 2025. The board, which focuses on establishing and managing a pension scheme for workers in unorganized sectors, is being recognized for its remarkable progress by the Sri Lanka Social Security and Community Empowerment Ministry.
In 2024, the board reported a value of new recruitments at Rs 167.41, which surged to 318.68 percent in 2025. This significant growth demonstrates the board’s commitment to expanding its reach and enhancing its services.
The board is in the final stages of streamlining its management activities, including recruitment processes, returns payments, and overall operations. These improvements are expected to enhance efficiency from 2026 onwards, facilitating faster recruitment of new members. Dr. Upali Pannilage, the Minister of Rural Development, Social Security, and Community Empowerment, expressed confidence that the board will continue to excel in its mission.
