A delegation from the Chinese Chamber of Commerce recently met with Sri Lanka’s Minister of Agriculture to discuss opportunities for cultivating fruits and vegetables for export, according to a government statement.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Lands and Irrigation reported that the delegation aims to utilize currently unused land for the development of large-scale dairy farms and the production of export-oriented agricultural products, such as vegetables and fruits.

Lands managed by the Land Commissioner General’s Department, the Land Reform Commission, and the Mahaweli Authority are being considered for offering to Chinese investors to facilitate these initiatives.

During the meeting, the delegation addressed several important issues with Minister K D Lalkantha. A proposal was submitted by the Chinese Chamber of Commerce, to which the minister responded positively.
