World Bank’s Parameswaran Iyer Embarks on Strategic Visit to Sri Lanka

World Bank Group Executive Director Parameswaran Iyer is currently on an official visit to Sri Lanka, aiming to enhance development cooperation and support the country’s economic growth initiatives. Mr. Iyer, who represents Sri Lanka and several regional countries on the World Bank’s Executive Board, held a meeting with Dr. Harshana Suriyapperuma, Secretary to the Treasury and Ministry of Finance, Planning, and Economic Development. He was joined by David Sislen, the World Bank Country Director for Maldives, Nepal, and Sri Lanka.

During their discussions, Mr. Iyer emphasized key sectors crucial for job creation and economic growth, such as infrastructure, agribusiness, healthcare, tourism, and value-added manufacturing. Dr. Suriyapperuma highlighted the importance of attracting investment, promoting inclusive growth, and strengthening cooperation in significant development areas.

The visit also served as an opportunity to review existing World Bank-supported initiatives and explore ways to better align them with Sri Lanka’s national development goals.
