Sri Lankan Rupee Strengthens as Bond Yields Decline

The Sri Lankan rupee strengthened against the US dollar in the spot market, closing at 309.35/45 on Friday, an improvement from the 309.45/50 mark recorded the previous day, according to market dealers. Meanwhile, bond yields experienced a decline.

Specifically, the bond maturing on December 15, 2026, saw its yield close at 8.20/35 percent, down from 8.25/30 percent. Similarly, the bond maturing on September 15, 2027, ended at 8.55/65 percent, decreasing from 8.60/70 percent.

The bond set to mature on February 15, 2028, closed at 8.95/9.00 percent, slightly down from 8.97/9.02 percent. Additionally, the bond maturing on October 15, 2028, closed at 9.08/13 percent.

For the bond maturing on December 15, 2029, the yield closed at 9.51/55 percent, down from 9.55/60 percent. The March 1, 2030, bond saw a closing yield of 9.52/56 percent, a reduction from 9.65/69 percent.

The bond maturing on March 15, 2031, finished at 9.85/91 percent, slightly down from 9.88/90 percent. The bond maturing on October 1, 2032, closed at 10.18/22 percent, down from 10.23/25 percent.

Furthermore, the bond set to mature on June 1, 2033, ended at 10.50/55 percent, decreasing from 10.57/60 percent, while the bond maturing on September 15, 2034, closed at 10.70/75 percent.

Finally, the bond maturing on June 15, 2035, closed at 10.80/85 percent, a slight decrease from 10.82/87 percent. (Colombo/Feb6/2026)
