FINANCIAL CHRONICLE – In a significant development, Pakistan’s cricket team will face India in Sri Lanka, reversing an earlier decision. This change followed discussions between Pakistan’s government and President Anura Dissanayake, along with consultations involving the International Cricket Council and the Bangladesh Cricket Board.

According to a statement from Pakistan’s government on Twitter, “This evening, the Prime Minister held a telephone call with H.E. Anura Kumara Dissanayake, President of Sri Lanka.” The conversation was described as warm and friendly, with both leaders recalling the longstanding support between Pakistan and Sri Lanka, particularly during challenging times. The Sri Lankan President requested the Prime Minister to seriously consider resolving the current impasse amicably.

The Government of Pakistan has reviewed formal requests from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) by the Bangladesh Cricket Board, alongside supporting communications from Sri Lanka, the United Arab Emirates, and other member nations.

Sri Lanka’s Foreign Minister, Vjitha Herath, also expressed gratitude toward Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. “Thankful to Prime Minister @CMShehbaz, the Government of Pakistan, and @ForeignOfficePk for positively considering Sri Lanka’s request,” Minister Herath stated in a Twitter message. He further appreciated @TheRealPCB and Pakistan’s sports authorities for their cooperation, highlighting the gesture as a reflection of sportsmanship, friendship, and the strength of bilateral ties.
