Prime Minister Engages in Strategic Talks with European External Action Service Delegation

On February 10th, Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya held a meeting with representatives from the European External Action Service (EEAS) at the Prime Minister’s office. During the meeting, the Prime Minister welcomed the delegation and emphasized the importance of strengthening the longstanding partnership between Sri Lanka and the European Union. She highlighted the EU’s role as a key partner in development and economic matters.

The Prime Minister expressed her gratitude for the European Union’s prompt assistance in response to the recent cyclone in Sri Lanka, acknowledging the EU’s ongoing solidarity and support during critical times.

Discussions also focused on expanding economic cooperation between Sri Lanka and the European Union. The Prime Minister stressed the need for legislative and policy reforms to promote enhanced economic engagement, trade, and investment between the two entities.

The delegation was informed about the ongoing initiatives and reforms being undertaken by the new Government to bolster economic stability and governance, aiming to create a conducive environment for sustainable growth and international cooperation.

The meeting was attended by several notable figures, including Ms. Paola Pampaloni, Acting Managing Director for Asia and the Pacific in the European External Action Service, and Ms. Carmen Moreno, EU Ambassador and Head of the EU Delegation. Additional attendees included representatives from the European External Action Services, the Delegation of the European Union, Ms. Sagarika Bogahawatta, Additional Secretary to the Prime Minister, as well as officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism Sri Lanka.
