Dubai, UAE – A significant discussion took place between the President of Asia Rugby, Mr. Qais Al-Dhalai, and Sri Lanka’s Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Mr. Sunil Kumara Gamage, at the Al Bayt Palace in Dubai. The primary focus of the meeting was to elevate Sri Lankan rugby to international standards and enhance sports tourism.

Dr. Kelum Sujith Perera, President of Sri Lions International, a prominent sports organization in Dubai, attended the meeting alongside members of its board.

International Tournaments in Sri Lanka: The discussions included plans to organize international rugby tournaments within Sri Lanka to attract foreign players and fans. The Minister highlighted the potential of these events to bolster the local tourism sector and the economy.

Development of Rugby: Mr. Qais Al-Dhalai assured Asia Rugby’s full support in enhancing technical standards and providing international-level training and facilities for Sri Lankan players.

Minister Sunil Kumara Gamage emphasized that the government’s primary goal is to establish Sri Lanka as a regional sports hub through such international partnerships.
