China Backs Sri Lanka’s Agricultural Revival Efforts

A meeting addressing the challenges in Sri Lanka’s agriculture sector and related environmental issues was convened yesterday morning at the Presidential Secretariat. This discussion was held under the auspices of the Secretary to the President, Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake, as part of the Memorandum of Understanding on Enhancing China–Sri Lanka Agricultural Productivity.

The participants engaged in extensive deliberations on the joint implementation of programmes between China and Sri Lanka. These initiatives aim to resolve issues within the country’s agriculture sector and boost overall productivity.

Further discussions highlighted the potential application of Chinese technology and tools to tackle challenges in agriculture and related environmental concerns. Specific attention was given to strategies for minimizing crop damage caused by wild animals and exploring China’s assistance in cleaning and restoring Beira Lake.

The meeting was attended by several key figures, including Vishvajith Kandegama, Senior Lecturer of the Faculty of Agriculture and Plantation Management at Wayamba University of Sri Lanka; Professor Zhang Guozhu from Guizhou University; and Cao Xuan and Wei Ping from the Department of Commerce and Management in Hubei Province, along with other representatives.
