CSE Experiences Historic Single-Day Point Decline

The Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) experienced an unprecedented decline today, marking the largest single-day point drop in its history. The All Share Price Index (ASPI) fell by 1,290.68 points, translating to a decrease of 5.44%.

By the end of the trading day, the ASPI had settled at 22,443.38 points. Concurrently, the S&P SL20 Index also saw a significant drop, shedding 322.32 points to close at 6,313.65 points.

The day’s trading turnover amounted to over Rs. 9.56 billion. Earlier in the day, trading on the Colombo Stock Exchange was temporarily suspended following a decline of over 5% in the S&P SL20 Index from its previous close. According to the CSE, regular trading resumed 30 minutes after the halt.
