In July 2025, the central bank appointed an administrator to run Nation Lanka Finance, using its new powers to resolve troubled banks and finance companies, after the firm failed to meet capital requirements and regulations. The tenure of the administrator appointed to ensure the continuation of the firm’s resolution process was extended several times.

Before this, in 2024, the company sought to meet working capital requirements through a private placement of 30 billion ordinary shares at 10 cents a share. Five billion ordinary shares were to be issued initially and subsequently 25 billion ordinary shares, to Sugath Rathnawardana Holding Ceylon (Pvt) Limited, the finance company said at the time.
