The Consulate General of Sri Lanka, in collaboration with the Pudong Shangri-La Shanghai, successfully hosted the inaugural Sri Lankan Food Festival from February 9 to 13, 2026. This event coincided with the celebrations of the 78th Anniversary of Sri Lanka’s National Independence Day.

The festival was inaugurated by the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to China, Majintha Jayesinghe, alongside the Consul General in Shanghai, Pamoda Gooneratne, and the Vice President (Operations) of the hotel, Yilmaz Sinan. The launch was attended by a large crowd, including celebrities, media representatives, and culinary enthusiasts.

Sri Lankan Chef Neshan Appuhamy showcased his expertise in traditional culinary arts by transforming a variety of Sri Lankan dishes into mouth-watering delicacies. He skillfully incorporated authentic spices and condiments to create a diverse menu featuring rice, roti, koththu, seafood such as crab, fish, and prawns, as well as nuts and vegetables. Traditional desserts like ‘Kiri-Peni’ (buffalo milk-curd with honey) and local beverages, including ‘Kola Kenda’ (herbal porridge) and iced tea made with Ceylon tea, were also highlighted.

The festival, held at the YiCafé of the Pudong Shangri-La, was decorated to emphasize Sri Lankan traditions. It attracted not only Chinese locals preparing to celebrate the ‘New Year of the Horse’ but also an increasing number of international food enthusiasts enjoying the festive season in Shanghai. Attendees were treated to the unique flavors of Sri Lankan cuisine and entrancing performances by the dancers of the Channa-Upuli Performing Arts, creating an authentic Sri Lankan atmosphere in Shanghai.
