FINANCIAL CHRONICLE – President Anura Dissanayake assured Parliament on Tuesday that Sri Lanka is effectively managing its oil reserves, addressing concerns that arose from queues at petrol stations over the recent three-day weekend. According to President Dissanayake, the country currently has diesel reserves sufficient for 33 days and petrol reserves for 27 days.

He noted that the queues were expected given the public’s previous experiences with petrol shortages. “If we disregard the oil tanks in Trincomalee, the Kollonnawa and Muthurajawela tanks have a combined capacity of 150,000 metric tons, and they are currently holding 103,000 metric tons,” he explained.

President Dissanayake also mentioned that several shipments, including one carrying 35,000 metric tons, are expected to arrive on schedule, ensuring continued supply. (Colombo/Mar3/2026)
