Sri Lanka Stock Market Falls 2.41% Amid Fuel Shortage Concerns

FINANCIAL CHRONICLE – Sri Lanka’s Colombo Stock Exchange closed 2.41 percent down on Tuesday as investors were spooked by fears of a fuel shortage, brokers said.

“A possible fuel shortage would impact business profitability, so that is worrying investors,” Ranjan Ranatunga, Assistant Vice President-Research at First Capital Holdings PLC said. “That’s what’s weighing market down.”

The dip was seen across all sectors, Ranatunga said.

The All Share Price Index closed down 2.41 percent, or 505.48 points, at 20,433.78.

The S&P SL20 closed down 1.94 percent, or 114.34 points at 5,770.59.

Turnover was 5 billion rupees.

Top negative contributors to the ASPI were Commercial Bank (down 5.50 rupees at 193), Hayleys (down 8.50 rupees at 205), and Colombo Dockyard (down 10.75 rupees at 108.75).
