Sri Lanka Transforms Pelwatte Sugar Site into Thriving Tourism Hub

FINANCIAL CHRONICLE – The Sri Lankan cabinet has given the green light to seek investors for transforming the Pelwatte Sugar Factory premises into tourist attractions through a public-private partnership (PPP).

“There is potential to develop selected locations of the Pelwatte Sugar Factory into tourist attractions,” stated cabinet spokesman Minister Nalinda Jayatissa during a press briefing.

The cabinet has approved the proposal to invite expressions of interest, aiming to identify suitable investors and solicit project proposals from eligible parties to develop these sites under the PPP model.

The Pelwatte Sugar Factory is owned by Lanka Sugar Company (Pvt.) Ltd. (Colombo/Jan13/2026)
