John Keells CG Auto (JKCG Auto), the authorized distributor of BYD in Sri Lanka, has announced the arrival of 835 units of the BYD ATTO 1. This marks the largest single consignment of the model since its introduction to the Sri Lankan market, with some units available for immediate delivery to customers.

Since its official launch at the Colombo Motor Show in November 2025, where it attracted significant public interest, the BYD ATTO 1 has become one of the most eagerly anticipated vehicles in the country. As BYD’s most competitively priced offering in Sri Lanka, this fully electric hatchback provides a more extensive demographic of Sri Lankan consumers with access to a high-quality New Energy Vehicle (NEV). It features BYD’s reliable Blade Battery technology, offering a 300 km range on a single charge, and boasts a 5-star ANCAP safety rating.

The surge in bookings and public inquiries following the launch highlighted a clear and growing demand for accessible NEVs, prompting JKCG Auto to act swiftly in securing this record shipment.

Commenting on this development, Charith Panditharatne, Chief Executive Officer of John Keells CG Auto, stated, “The response to the ATTO 1 has been truly extraordinary. This demand indicates that Sri Lankans are ready for NEVs, and when the right product is offered at the right price point, supported by quality and technology, the interest is evident. With this new batch of vehicles, we are committed to honoring this interest and continuing to make high-quality NEVs accessible to more Sri Lankans.”

The arrival of 835 units builds on a period of strong momentum for BYD in Sri Lanka. Since the resumption of vehicle imports, BYD, under the leadership of JKCG Auto, has become the leading brand in Sri Lanka’s brand-new vehicle segment. It accounts for approximately 37% of all brand-new vehicle registrations and over 70% of cumulative electric vehicle registrations in 2025. With the ATTO 1 now spearheading this growth, JKCG Auto reaffirms its commitment to expanding Sri Lanka’s NEV landscape by continually introducing advanced, high-technology vehicles that cater to the evolving needs of Sri Lankan drivers across various price points.
