Trump Warns Against Non-Compliance with Court Ruling as Sri Lanka Faces Potential 15% Tariff

FINANCIAL CHRONICLE – President Donald Trump has announced the imposition of a 15 percent global tariff following a Supreme Court decision that invalidated most of his previously established tariffs. In response, Trump has threatened increased taxes on nations that he claims “play games” with the ruling.

In a post on truthsocial.com, Trump stated, “Any country that wants to ‘play games’ with the ridiculous Supreme Court decision, especially those that have ‘ripped off’ the U.S.A. for years, and even decades, will be met with a much higher tariff, and worse, than that which they just recently agreed to.” He added, “BUYER BEWARE!!! Thank you for your attention to this matter.”

Trump also asserted that he does not require congressional approval to impose tariffs, a point highlighted by the Supreme Court. He indicated that the initially proposed 10 percent tariff, which he planned to implement through a different legal avenue, will now be increased to 15 percent, creating further uncertainty.

In related news, there is speculation about the impact on Sri Lanka, where a 20 percent tax previously imposed under a wartime emergency law was nullified by the Supreme Court. (Colombo/Feb24/2026)
