Windforce Lands 120MW Battery Storage Projects in Sri Lanka

WindForce PLC, a prominent energy firm in Sri Lanka, has announced its success in securing 12 standalone battery energy storage system (BESS) projects. These initiatives represent a total investment of 20.79 billion rupees, with project financing anticipated to follow an 80:20 debt-to-equity ratio.

The company stated in a stock exchange filing that these 12 projects will collectively offer a total installed capacity of 120 MW/480 MWh. They will be developed as standalone BESS facilities under the Build, Own, and Operate (BOO) model, with a contract period of 15 years.

Of the 12 projects, WindForce will fully own and develop 11, while the Vavunathivu project will be executed through a partnership between WindForce and Vidullanka.

These projects are part of Sri Lanka’s inaugural grid-scale standalone BESS initiative, launched by the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) to improve the stability of the national grid and to facilitate a higher integration of renewable energy sources.
